Bipartisanship Lives! Six Republican U.S. Representatives vote for clean water!

Our children and our children’s children will study this day in textbooks.  Where were you on June 2nd, 2012?

In an unprecedented turn of events, six Republican Congressmen voted in favor of clean water.  On June 2nd, these brave Members supported the Moran-Dingell amendment to the FY2013 Energy and Water Appropriations Bill - a controversial amendment that would let the treehugging Army Corps of Engineers issue a Clean Water Act guidance, which would protect our rivers, streams, and drinking water.

“I don’t know if they are geniuses or fools,” said a Republican party leader who asked to remain anonymous for fear of retribution.  “Don’t get me wrong—I love the environment.  I’ve just never, you know, voted to protect it.  Just doesn’t seem right.”

A high-ranking White House official said, “Six House Republicans voted for clean water? Maybe it’s time to blow the dust off of the guidance and release it.”

But not everyone was happy about the vote.

A Tea Party leader said, “What were they thinking? Hello—it’s the Tea Party not the, the Water Party!”

While there hasn’t been any evidence of backlash from senior Republicans, we can only speculate that when the backlash comes, it will be swift and harsh.  A lobbyist from the Farm Bureau declined to comment.
