Clean Water Network Run for the Gulf 5K SOLD OUT & BIG HIT

Thanks to an overwhelming response (300 registered runners) the Run for the Gulf 5K race benefiting the work of the Clean Water Network was a sold out success! For race results please click on the Pacers Running store website.   We also wish to thank the event sponsors and supporting organizations and companies including Clarendon Alliance, Fusion Meetings & Events LLC, Giant Foods. Irelands Four Courts (donated several items for a raffle including a world cup soccer ball!) and Custom Fitness Concepts for helping make this event a success.  We particularly want to thank Pacers for making the race a success in an incredibly short turnaround. The Pacers race team is amazing! Congressman Jim Moran (8th district-VA) and Arlington County Board Vice-Chair Chris Zimmerman made opening remarks to kick off the run.  Due to the popularity of this event we are exploring holding another similar trail race with Pacers next month.  The money raised from this event will support the Clean Water Network's Gulf Assistance Fund and the Gulf Restoration Network, a key Clean Water Network coalition member that is working on the ground 24/7 to address the Gulf Oil Spill disaster. GRN is based in Louisiana and also works in Mississippi, Alabama and Florida. The race took place in 93+ degree heat on Friday, July 16th, 2010 at 7:30 at Bluemont Park in Arlington, VA. Check out pictures from the event on Shutterfly.

Thanks to the numerous merchants who donated goods and services to the race. It really was a team effort! Arlington Merchants who generously donated certificates were Irelands Four Courts m(Courthouse-Arlington), Boccatos (Clarendon), Northside Social (Clarendon), Whitlows (Clarendon), Wylie Wagg (Clarendon), Pacers (Clarendon), Washington Sports Club (Clarendon), Harris Teeter (Ballston) Red Mango-Arlington, Phantacee Salon & Spa (Clarendon) and Custom Fitness Concept (Potomac Falls, VA). Our thanks also to Giant Foods (Maryland & Virginia) for donating fresh apples and to Chesapeake Bagel Company (Harrison Street Shopping Center in Arlington) for providing bagels. Left over bagels and apples were donated to the Doorways Shelter in Arlington. Starbucks at Virginia Square in Arlington also donated ice coffee.

Thanks also to the many volunteers who helped out in the steaming heat. We could not have done this without you. Also a big thank you to CWN staff member Jennifer Peters for all of her hard work on the race including manning the raffle and sign up table and with set up-not an easy task. And major Kudos to Gordon Culver for being a terrific race coordinator for CWN - working with Pacers on the website and registration information, assisting with set up, manning the water and food station, organizing the volunteers, handling new registrations and a host of other duties!  For more background  information on the run, please click HERE.
