"It is critically important that Congress fix judicially-created loopholes in the Clean Water Act and ensure that the nation's waters are again fully protected against unregulated pollution and destruction. With the recent introduction of the House bill called America's Commitment to Clean Water Act (and the earlier passage of a companion bill, the Clean Water Restoration Act, by the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works), this year presents the best opportunity to fix this issue that we have had. The Clean Water Network (CWN) supports the House and Senate compromise legislation and will work to strengthen it as the process goes forward. In particular, we support restoring Clean Water Act protections to those waters that were protected prior to Supreme Court intervention in 2001, and we are fully committed to passage of the strongest possible bill that achieves that result."
