Clean Water Restoration Act National Call-In Big Success
Forty-Four CWN members from across the country participated in a CWN Clean Water Restoration Act Grassroots Conference call on November 20th! Three U.S. House Transportation & Infrastructure (T & I) Committee Staff briefed participants on the latest status of the Clean Water Restoration Act.
The staff members who participated were T & I Water Resources Subcommittee staff director and counsel Ryan Seiger and professional staff members Ben Webster and Ken Kaposis.
Committee staff fielded numerous questions from participants which helped to shed light on where the legislation sits on Capitol Hill and next steps.
The call also provided CWN members with an opportunity to convey how critically important it is that the bill be introduced and passed out of the T&I Committee before the end of the year. Everyday that Congress fails to act, more streams, rivers, wetlands and other waters that have long been protected by the Clean Water Act are in jeopardy of being polluted or destroyed.
Committee staff requested that groups on the call continue to collect and send them compelling stories about waterways that have become polluted due to lack of Clean Water Act protections resulting from the SWANCC and Rapanos Supreme Court decisions. Stay tuned for more updates on the bill in both the House and the Senate. For more information on CWN's Grassroots Task Force contact Jennifer Peters at jenniferpeters@cwn.org.
