CWN Releases Position Statement on Gulf Oil Spill
On May 11th, the Clean Water Network Board of Directors released a public position statement on the oil spill disaster in the Gulf of Mexico. The spill, which has already poured millions of gallons of crude oil into the Gulf, continues to grow at an alarming rate.
The Network's statement outlines the following crucial issues:
- Hold BP and Transocean, and other responsible parties, fully accountable;
- Revise the federal regulatory process;
- Remove the liability cap on oil companies;
- Increase resources, training and support for communities and non-profit organizations;
- Establish an immediate moratorium on new offshore drilling operations nationwide to protect coastal waters from pollution associated with oil and gas development; and
- Rapidly transition our country away from its dependence on fossil fuels and towards the efficient use of environmentally-sound renewable energy.

We are asking all CWN members to sign on in support of the position statement to help generate action and support for groups working on the ground. We will be including a list of supportive organizations at the end of the CWN statement after we complete the sign-on drive. If you are interested in having your group listed please send an email with your organization's full name by COB Friday May 14 to Natalie Roy at natalieroy@cleanwaternetwork.org
