Endangered Rivers Nominations for 2011 Now Being Accepted!

Every year, CWN member organization American Rivers generates a list of America's Most Endangered Rivers™. Ten rivers are selected each year for inclusion in the list, not because they are the most polluted, but rather because they are facing a turning point in the coming year that could negatively impact the river into the future.

Now it is time to nominate rivers to for the 2011 America's Most Endangered RiversTM report! If you didn't get to see the 2010 report, please go to: http://www.americanrivers.org/our-work/protecting-rivers/endangered-rivers/http://www.americanrivers.org/our-work/protecting-rivers/endangered-rivers/. Rivers are selected based upon the following criteria:

· A major decision (that the public can help influence) in the coming year on the proposed action.

· The significance of the river to human and natural communities.

· The magnitude of the threat to the river and associated communities, especially in light of a changing climate.

The new nomination form is available electronically. Also available is a guidance document for partners and staff liaisons. Hopefully this will provide an easy to follow outline of the entire Most Endangered Rivers process. It should help clarify expectations of partners ahead of time. Although if you still have questions, please contact Jessie Thomas-Blate at jthomas@amrivers.org.

Nominations will be due on November 15, 2010. The report will be released on May 17, 2011.
