Science Advisory Board Releases Draft Report on EPA's Hydraulic Fracturing Study
Last week the Science Advisory Board Environmental Engineering Committee (EFC) released a draft report on its review of EPA's proposed hydraulic fracturing study. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the relationship between hydraulic fracturing and drinking water. In April the EFC of the EPA Science Advisory Board met to discuss the proposed study and to consider written and oral statements from the public.
The draft report issued last week summarizes the outcome of the Committee's deliberations and recommendations. This feedback will be used to guide EPA's development of a scientifically sound study to establish the relationship being drinking water resources and hydraulic fracturing.
There will be a public teleconference on Wednesday, June 16th at 11am (EDT) to discuss this draft report. Members of the public interested in participating or making an oral statement should contact Dr. Angela Nugent at 202-343-9981 or email nugent.angela@epa.gov by June 9th to be placed on the participant list. Any written comments must also be received by June 9th. For more information, refer to the May 17, 2010 Federal Register notice.
