Moran Amendment (HR 5325) - The pro clean water vote is YES

The Moran-Dingell amendment would strike section 110 from the Energy and Water Appropriations Bill (HR 5325) which would prevent guidance from the Army Corps of Engineers to clarify and strengthen the Clean Water Act by restoring protections to small stream and wetlands.  Following two Supreme Court decisions, an estimated 2 million miles of streams that contribute to the drinking water supply for 117 million Americans are in jeopardy of not being protected.  It is critical to the country’s clean water supply that the EPA and Army Corps of Engineers are allowed to move forward to restore protections to these valuable waters.  This bill failed 152-237.

McKinley’s Coal Ash Bill (HR 2273)- The pro-clean water vote is NO

The Coal Residuals Reuse and Management Act (HR 2273) is a dangerous bill that undermines the EPA’s public rulemaking process and fails to require coal ash dumps to meet the minimum safety standards that apply to municipal waste landfills.  Coal ash is the toxic byproduct of burning coal, and it is produced in staggering quantities each year.  Companies regularly dispose of it in poorly contained ponds, pits, landfills and mines, putting the health of everyone in the area at risk.  This bill passed 267-144

Coal Ash Motion to Instruct (HR 4348)- The pro-clean water vote is NO

The House of Representatives passed this motion to instruct conferees on the transportation bill to press ahead with McKinley’s coal ash amendment.  The amendment would bar the EPA from regulating coal ash as a hazardous waste under federal law.  It was passed 260-138

H.R. 3409, the Stop the War on Coal Act of 2012- The pro-clean water vote is NO

 a bill that purports to address coal, but in fact takes aim at a staggering array of basic laws that keep the American public safe.  This dangerous bill fundamentally weakens the Clean Air Act and eviscerates the protections of the Clean Water Act. H.R. 3409 repackages many of the same attacks on health and environmental safeguardsattempted earlier this Congress. This vote failed 233-175.
